What is GROE?The Group for Research in Organizational Evolution (GROE) is one of the established research units within the University of Hertfordshire Business School, in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, UK. It is an interdisciplinary research unit, building on cutting-edge research in institutional economics, evolutionary economics, sociology, management, complexity studies, law, philosophy, psychology, evolutionary biology and other disciplines.
Key current research questions include · the relative importance in business evolution of organisational adaptation versus competition and elimination, · the transmission of information between organisations, · institutional preconditions of trust in organisations, · sources of internal cohesion in organisations, · the nature and boundaries of the firm, · the evolution of organisational complexity,· business evolution and the costs of change, · the effects of different institutional environments and complementarities, · the evolution of capitalist institutions, · institutions and economic development. GROE hosts the Journal of Institutional Economics, published by Cambridge University Press. In 2012 the Journal of Institutional Economics was first listed on the Social Science Citations Index of Thomson-Reuters. With a citation impact score of 0.457, it ranked higher than several other well-established and comparable journals. Click HERE for details. GROE replaced the Centre for Research in Institutional Economics (CRIE) in 2009. CRIE was formed in 1999 and continued until 2009. Four research-active staff were linked with CRIE in RAE 2008, and it has been associated with a number of past and current PhD students. CRIE ran ten annual International Workshops on Institutional Economics and several other events.
